I’m a Geoscientist is funded by the European Geosciences Union (EGU). All geoscientist members of the EGU can take part, as well as all teachers who have participated in EGU’s Geoscience Information For Teachers (GIFT) workshops.

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) is Europe’s premier geosciences union, dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in the Earth, planetary and space sciences for the benefit of humanity, worldwide. It is a non-profit interdisciplinary learned association of scientists founded in 2002. The EGU has 15 diverse open access scientific journals, organises a number of topical meetings, education and outreach activities. Its annual General Assembly is the largest and most prominent European geosciences event, attracting over 11,000 scientists from all over the world.

I’m a Geoscientist is an initiative funded by the EGU as part of the Geosciences Information for Teachers (GIFT) programme. GIFT offers teachers of primary and secondary schools the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge of the geosciences and to shorten the time between new discoveries and textbook information. GIFT workshops are held annually at the EGU General Assembly in Vienna as well as in collaboration with the EGU’s Alexander von Humboldt conferences held outside of Europe addressing topics of geosciences with a socio-economic impact. As of 2014 the EGU is also working in collaboration with UNESCO and the European Space Agency to deliver GIFT workshops across Africa as part of the UNESCO Earth Science Initiative in Africa.
